Research Scholarships in the Area of Jewish Education

The Faculty of Education and Social Work at the University of Sydney and the Inter-Schools Committee of Jewish Education are offering a number of research higher degree scholarships in the area of Jewish Studies Education. The successful applicants for these scholarships will enrol in a research degree in the area of Jewish Studies Education in the Faculty, as well as have the opportunity to do teaching and tutoring work in the Faculty in the area of Jewish Studies Education.

The scholarship is to the value of A$25,000 pa for up to 3.5 years for a doctoral student, 2 years for an MPhil student, and 1 year for an MEd (Research) student.

The Faculty will provide office space, computers, access to research facilities and other research support to the successful applicants.

Fees
Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens and Permanent Residents of Australia receive a fee waiver from the Commonwealth Government for their studies. Depending on the strength of their applications, the scholarship may include a fee waiver for international students.

• Selection criteria
• Meet the Faculty’s requirements for admission to the research degree of PhD, EdD, MPhil or MEd (Research) —essential;
• Conduct research related to Jewish Studies Education—essential;
• Experience in teaching Jewish Studies in schools—essential;
• Experience in Jewish Studies teacher education courses—desirable;
• Experience in university teaching—desirable;
• Ability and interest in participating in the Faculty's Jewish Studies Education program — desirable;
• Conversant with reading modern Hebrew—desirable.

• Applications
• Applications should include:
• a curriculum vitae;
• a list of publications (clearly distinguishing between full publications and abstracts of papers presented at conferences);
• an outline of the proposed research project in no more than two pages; and
• two referees’ reports

  Applicants should, at the same time as submitting their scholarship application, also submit an application for admission to the research degree they wish to enrol in.
